The Department of Medical Radiation Physics is looking for a

PhD Student (f/m/d) Quantification and reduction of uncertainties for online adaptive particle therapy

Be part of a joint collaborative project between OncoRay in Dresden and HIRO in Heidelberg with regular collaboration visits.

The position will be available on 1 February 2025. The employment contract is limited to 3 years. The place of work is Dresden. The working time amounts to 19,5 h/week. In the 2nd year there is the option of increasing the weekly working hours to 75 %.

Your tasks

  • Joint development of methods to identify and quantify uncertainties in online adaptive proton therapy (OPAT)
  • Collect and analyze data, implement, validate and extend (AI) models for uncertainty prediction of the different sources of uncertainty in OAPT
  • Find feasible and creative solutions to reduce or mitigate the effect of different uncertainties in OAPT
  • Present results at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals, supervise bachelor and master students

Your profile

  • Completed university studies (Master/Diploma) in the field of medical physics, physics, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics or similar
  • Programming experience is desired, preferably with python
  • Experience in radiotherapy, particle therapy or deformable image registration is a plus
  • Interested in collaborative work and ability of working in a team
  • Fluent in English
